Abraham Lincoln.
If anyone, in all of American history, ever deserved to have one on the house, it was this man right here. He held us together when we were determined to destroy ourselves. He was noble, wise, and honest. Three qualities that seem to be absent from most of the politicians I could name.
The only trouble is, he was a tea-totaler. Never touched the stuff. Once someone complained to him about the drinking of Gen. U. S. Grant. Lincoln replied, "Find out what he drinks, and I'll send a barrel of it to all of my Generals!" What a card!
Here's to you Sir! May you rest in peace.

I'm getting a Steel Reserve and crackin' it open to this one. We have pictures of him all over the place, you'd think he'd have more of an influence on modern politicians.
ReplyDeleteHe suffered from chronic depression. He didn't need booze to feel whoozy. Whoozy? Is that how that's spelled?
ReplyDeleteleave out the "h" and you gots it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why *I* feel "whoozy" most of the time meself??
BO: Chronic depression or lack of beer? I think you feel "whoozy" 'cause you don't get any sleep, little exercise, poor diet, think way way too much, wrestle with neighbors, paperwork, your wife, children, and your inner demons, as well as spread yourself too thin. Like too little butter on too much toast.
ReplyDeleteTry and sleep more. (I know, Yea, Right!)
Doc
Both chronic depression AND lack of beer. Though the consequences of beer may have made him more depressed....
