I was reading your blog the other day and was enjoying myself immensely when I needed to answer the call of nature. So I headed for the powder room and I took the computer with me. I find that this room lends itself well to reading as it is quiet, I can remain undisturbed, and the seating is comfortable.
After a few small adjustments to my clothing, I sat down and picked up my reading where I had left off. In a few moments the computer started making noises that I had never heard it make before. It sounded like a flock of sea gulls. As I listened more closely, I could hear the sound of waves crashing on a beach. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to make it stop.
"Oh Great," I thought, "the computer has caught a virus and now it sounds like a day at the beach." I started the virus scan program. I started the anti-spy ware program. I even turned off the speakers and still the unseen gulls called to me amid the sounds of the surf.
I sat for ten minutes in disbelief before the answer presented itself.
It wasn't the computer at all. It is the stupid clock/radio that we have plugged in the bathroom. One of the alarm settings is to wake up to nature sounds.
The good news is my computer has no viruses or spyware. The bad news is this confirms an earlier suspicion, I am a dufus.
Doc
At least your alarm clock radio wasn't tuned into some station that has Rush spouting his venom on it. Then you would have really gone off the deep end!
ReplyDeleteActually, what it confirms is that you occasionally fall asleep in the bathroom. Think of all the things that could go wrong.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for you to tell us that the Coiled Dragon was back and fucking mightily with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad-- the thought of your butt making seagull noises is just TOO weird, even fo' meeee....
I'd have made the same mistake...
ReplyDeleteEwwww! You took my blog into the bathroom with you??
ReplyDeleteI ran, I ran so far a-way-aa-aay! Oh, wait...wrong flock of seagulls.
ReplyDeleteNow if THEY had been in the bathroom with you, that would have been one hell of a story!
...there's just something about having anti-spy ware in the bathroom
ReplyDeleteYou truly are an interesting guy. Thanks for always making me laugh.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth stole my line, but I was going to link to this one instead.
ReplyDeleteAgain I was drawn to the 'pulls at the tap' line. If it had been my blog you would have heard more flushing sounds.
ReplyDeleteWell, Tiki South is going to have to be cxl'd for awhile...
ReplyDeleteBut then again, with a pad o' me own, maybe I could spruce it up th' way I wanna??
I used to have a similar experience, regularly, after getting my first cell phone earlier this year. I'd be in the car listening to music, and this annoying ringing sound would come out of the speakers. Took me quite a while to realize it was my phone -- not my stereo.
ReplyDeleteSee, I would have said that whole episode made you a dork, not a dufus.
