I wonder if fish have nightmares?

I'm proud of my fish cartoon, as it is the rare occasion that the idea that I had in my head and the finished product turn out alike.

But in drawing the cartoon, it made me wonder; Do fish have nightmares about being trapped under air? I don't know. I don't even know if they sleep, or if their dreams of flying scare the crap out of them.

What do you think?

  1. Fish make such great cartoons. That stikes me as very Pythonesque.

  2. I think they do IF they've had the unfortunate luck (or impulse) to jump out of the tank and lie there gasping for breath on the floor before someone puts them back in.

either that, or they have extremely short-short term memories and nuthin' REALLY bothers 'em at all.

  3. There is a comic, Larry Miller, that had a bit about catch and release fishing. He spoke of the fish in a bar and the one turning to the other after he calmed himself with several shots saying, "You don't understand! I was IN the boat man!"

  4. Oh, I once saw a huge, beautiful marlin on the dock at Catalina, being haggled over by the fisherman and a local restaurateur. He wasn't dead yet, and he was, I guess, gasping for water. So sad.

  5. I think that, like everybody else, fish dream of sex.

  6. Ever since watching Finding Nemo, my take on fish has changed.
