People I Would Like To Buy A Beer, part 18

Ronnie James Dio.

I would love to buy a beer for Dio and thank him for all the wonderful music he has made over the years. To sit and listen as he told me of his time in Ritchie Blackmoor’s “Rainbow”, to hear of the tough times on the road with “Black Sabbath”, and what a complete jerk Tony Iommi was. Ahh, bliss.

With his soaring vocals (he could have sung opera) and his mystical lyrics, Ronnie James Dio did it for me. He gave heavy metal a credibility, at least to me, that most other artists never could.

So here’s to Ronnie James. Sir, you ROCK!

We Rock (1984)
You watch their faces you'll see the traces of the things they want to be but only we can seeThey come for killing they leave and still it seems the cloud that's left behind oh can penetrate your mindBut sail on sing a song carry on 'cause we rock we rock we rock we rockWe pray to someone but when it's said and done it's really all the same with just a different nameSo many voices all giving choices if we listen they will say oh we can find the wayBut we'll sail on sing a song carry on 'cause we rock we rock we rock we rockWe rock we rock we rock we rock we rock we rockYou watch their faces you'll see the traces of the things they want to be but only we can seeThey come for killing they leave and still it seems the cloud that's left behind can penetrate your mindBut sail on sing a song carry on 'cause we rock we rock we rock we rockWe rock we rock we rock we rock ride out stand and shout carry on sail on sing your song carry on'cause we rock we rock see how we rock we rock that's rock we rock we rock we rock

  1. Doc, you rock!

As soon as I saw RJD's picture posted, I KNEW I'd be mentioned. I'm so proud of my rock chick status.

    Thanks for the dedication!

  3. WHAT?!?
I can see that, not only must I take you by the hand and educate you on great films, I must also teach you music too. You teaching has been very shoddy, very shoddy indeed!

Madame E, could you please explain who RJD is to our poor uneducated southern boob?

  4. RJD became the dynamic frontman of Black Sabbath once they kicked Ozzy out. He also fronted for Rainbow, I believe. And he was a successful solo artist. Tho some say he's passed his prime:

    Dio, by Tenacious D

Dio has rocked for a long, long time.
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildabeasts and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash, baby.
    Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter TO ME.
And a smaller one for KG.
    Go, go! Dio, Dio!

  5. Dio is actually seven years older than Gene Simmons. He was Black Sabbath's lead singer from 1979-1982. He quit due to lots of ugly quabling among band members. He was then replaced by my man Ian Gillan, who also quit after a year because Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath's lead guitarist) was an ass to him.

Dio is past his prime, but that's because true rock artists aren't allowed to be famous anymore. The likes of Dio can't survive here in the Jessica Simpson/Paris Hilton era.

He is wonderful nostalgia for us old metal heads. I saw him in 2002 and his voice was fantastic. He hasn't lost any of his strength.

Good job on your report Flannery. I'll give you an A+.

  6. Dio quit Sabbath due to squabling, not quabling. I probably didn't spell it right either way. Is there one "B" or two?
