A Few Random Entries In "The Devil's Dictionary", by Ambrose Bierce

Brandy, n. A cordial composed of one part thunder-and-lightning, one part remorse, two parts bloody murder, one part death-hell-and-the-grave and four parts clarified satan. Dose, a headful all the time. Brandy is said by Dr. Johnson to be the drink of heroes. Only a hero would drink it.
Idleness, n. A model farm where the devil experiments with seeds of new sins and promotes the growth of staple vices.
Monday, n. In Christian countries, the day after the baseball game.
Mouth, n. In a man, the gateway to the soul; in woman, the outlet for the heart.
You must admit, Mr. Bierce was a surly ol' bastard.
**Editor's Note** This picture was only included as it was the only one I could find for "Dictionary." In no way should this be misconstrued as an infringement of our strict "no nudity" policy. I just liked the kitty.**

  1. I liked the kitty, too, Doc. This post gets my blessing. Meanwhile, it looks like it's a Ron Pearlstein painting-- it's got his signature skin tones to it. You catch the painter's name??

  2. nope, not Pearlstein. But the title of the print is "Sphinxes with Dictionary", which is perhaps just as telling, no??
