Looking Ahead And Around.

Was vaccinated with a phonograph needle one summer break,

Same summer that I kissed her on her daddy's boat,

and shot across the lake, Yeah!

--David Lee Roth, A Little Ain't Enough, 1991

Here in the Ohio valley spring has sprung. Everything is in blossom and and the air smells of nature flexing long disused muscles. They say in the spring, a young man's thoughts turn to love, but I don't believe that. It's just because his sap is rising like everything else.

Thinking of spring leads me to contemplate the coming summer, and thinking of summer makes me think of good times, cold beer, and warm summer nights under the stars at the Tiki bar, with rock and roll music playing in the background.

It also makes reminds me that we are hosting a blogger get-together Saturday, 5/31/08, at Mulligan's Pub (4118 Beldon Village St. NW, Canton Oh. 44718. Phone (330) 493-8249) I can't honestly picture a better place to have it. It is a beautiful bar done in dark wood, brass, and has the feel of a good Irish pub throughout, and kilts are welcome. This is an open welcome, come one-come all. We have half a dozen rsvp's from some of the heartland's best bloggers, as well as a few sorrowful can't make it's. It promises to be an evening fraught with fun. Just a reminder to rsvp, as we only have so many hats for "silly hat night".

Speaking of silly, have I got a gem for you. David Lee Roth doing what "Diamond Dave" does best. See if you can count the number of women in this video. (76 by my count) Now count the number of midgets. (8 or 9 perhaps) How many times does he kick like a Chuck Norris wannabe? (couldn't be bothered to count) In my mind, nothing says "Rockstar" like a pink Jeep, but pay very close attention to the end of the video and see how Mr. Roth pictures himself in the year 2021, on Oct. 10th.

I purchased this album from the bargin bin for $8. That was at least 17 years ago. I've gotten my $8 out of it.

  1. I don't think I had that album. At some point, I had the one w/ "Yankee Rose" and "Good Times (Damn good times)" on it. As weird as Diamond Dave is, I always kind of liked what he did from Van Halen on out... Also thought it was cool that he left Van Halen and managed to hook up w/ Steve Vai, who was jaw-droppingly awesome.

  5. Skyler's Dad- I know what you mean. I've yet to make to any of the big get-togethers because of life's little intrusions, so Flan and I decided to host one of our own in honor of her birthday. I understand if you can't make it, but at least swing by "Prone to Whimsy" on the 31st and wish her a happy birthday. I won't be as good as having you here but I know it will warm the cockles of her heart.

  7. BSUWG- I was never a big fan of VH or DL Roth but I like this album and still put it on occasionally. The best track on the whole album is "sensible shoes". If you come across it in the bargin bin, pick it up. I think you might like it.

  8. GKL- Oh yes Dear, there will be many photos to come, as I intend to take lots. I probably won't be in any as I tend to be a bit camera shy. I have what you might call a face destined for radio.

It sure would have been swell if you could have made it, and I promise to buy you some top-shelf tequila when our paths do cross, and that is a promise you can hold me to.

  9. Cap'n Ergo- I won't deny that I've noticed a rise in my sap levels here as of late, but as far as the love thing goes, I think about that the other three seasons anyway.

Hope you enjoyed your hike with the hounds.
