"We Pay Our Story Tellers Here"

Robert Redford's character in Sydney Pollack's film "Out of Africa" delivers one of my all time favorite lines of moviedom. He and his hunting partner have spent the night at Meryl Streep's house and she has entertained them with a long elaborate story. In the morning, as they are mounting up, Redford's character mentions that he has a debt to pay to her. She stammers, "Oh, my stories are for free." "No," he insists, "We pay our story tellers here," and he gives her a pen. "Write them down," he tells her.

I wish I had a pen for you all, because we pay our storytellers here too.
